Optimum Design Using Genetic Algorithm and Discrete-element Method: Application to Vibration Feeder Design for E-waste Recycling Automation

This study is an engineering application of optimum design approach using the discrete element method (DEM) and a genetic algorithm (GA) which one most commonly used evolutionary computation algorithms. The three-dimensional shapes waste electrical electronic equipment (WEEE) were directly applied in DEM simulation. DEM-GA simulation was to tray set on single-item feeder for recycling WEEEs; as result, we obtained left-right asymmetrical shape. Moreover, unlike conventional symmetrical trays, shape induced complex side forces prevent clogging untangle any clogs that had formed. We manufactured zig-zag type examined its feeding performance. Finally, confirmed more effective stop when compared tray.
